Data

  1. What data do you ask for?
    Aside from your name, company, email, industry etc., the survey asks for your number of lawyers, paralegals and other legal staff (as of Dec. 31, 2009); total inside and total external counsel spend (in US dollars as of Dec. 31, 2009); and revenue (both for fiscal 2009)
  2. How will you protect my data?
    We carefully guard the confidentiality of your data. Nobody will ever see the data you submit except those who do quality control and data entry. All data in reports is normalized, meaning that one figure is divided by another figure.

Benefits

  1. What charts will be in my report?
    Twenty-five clear charts in color for your industry: easy-to-read charts that show medians, averages, and quartiles. The four characteristics are your revenue group, your number of lawyers, your industry, and your country or region. There will also be summary tables of all the benchmarks by country, revenue of company, and size of law department..
  2. What industries does the report cover?
    At this time, nineteen (19): Aerospace/Defense; Business Services; Construction; Consumer Products; Education; Energy; Financial Services; Extractive/Chemicals, Food & Beverages; Leisure/Entertainment/Media; Manufacturing; Not for Profit/Government; Other; Pharmaceutical; Healthcare; Retail; Technology; Telecommunications; and Utilities.
  3. Can I see the names of the other participants?
    If you request by email (rees@reesmorrison.com) we will disclose company names as we are permitted to by the participants.  Company names are included in the standard report.
  4. Can reports be customized for my company?
    Yes, there are three levels of customized reports and services.
  5. What custom reports can I have prepared?
    For a small charge, you can ask for benchmark metrics based on subsets of any two or three characteristics, such as industry, revenue, number of lawyers and country.  You can also rerun of your report later in the year, after more companies take part.
  6. How and when will you deliver the report?
    We will email you the report in a PDF file with releases of the report going out in July, early September and late October.

Investment

  1. What will you charge for the benchmark service?
    The core service is no cost.
  2. Is there a way I can obtain advice and consulting with regard to the benchmark report and its data?
